Baracuta – The Original Harrington Jacket Since 1937

British heritage, iconic design, timeless outerwear

In our opinion, Baracuta is one of the most important heritage brands in British menswear. Founded in Manchester in 1937 by brothers John and Isaac Miller, they created the G9 jacket, originally designed for golfers needing something lightweight, weather-resistant, and easy to move in.

The G9, or “Golf 9”, is defined by its functional details: a breathable umbrella back yoke, water-resistant cotton poplin shell, elasticated cuffs, and the signature dog-ear collar. Inside, the iconic Fraser Tartan lining adds a distinctive finish, secured with permission from Lord Lovat of Clan Fraser.

The jacket earned its famous “Harrington” nickname in 1964, when British retailer John Simons referenced Ryan O’Neal’s character Rodney Harrington from Peyton Place with a handwritten note in his shop window reading “The Rodney Harrington Style”, a name that stuck.

Since then, it’s been worn by everyone from Steve McQueen and Elvis Presley to, most importantly, Gavin Shipman, proving the G9’s place as a true icon of style. Today, Baracuta still produces the original jacket, unchanged in all the ways that matter.
